• Yadkin Valley Senior Games registration is taking place. The $10 fee includes a goody bag with T-shirt, as well as all game and silver follies show meals at each event. Golf and bowling are an extra cost. Visit a local senior center or recreation center for more information, or go to torch.ncseniorgames.org to register online.

March 16

• 8 to 10 a.m., a free Thank You breakfast is being held for veterans and first responders at VFW Post 10346, 4300 U.S. 21, Hamptonville, featuring a menu of eggs, sausage, grits, biscuits and gravy. The breakfast is sponsored by Eyrie Summit Farm, which is veteran owned and operated.

• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Yadkin County Protect Your ID free document shred day will be held at the Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce, 205 S. Jackson St., Yadkinville. The event is sponsored by Yadkinville Rotary Club, IDShield and the chamber of commerce. The groups will be accepted nonperishable food items or cash to be donated to Yadkin Christian Ministries food pantry in support of the Rotary club’s R.U.S.H. (Rotarians United to Stop Hunger) food initiative. Limited to two boxes of paper media only.

March 18

• Noon, Yadkin Valley Senior Center, 121 Delos Martin Drive, Jonesville, will host a St. Patrick’s Day Party, with those attending asked to bring a snack to share while playing games like Rook, UNO and Dominoes.

• 1:30 to 6 p.m., a blood drive will be held at Elkin Rescue Squad, 946 N. Bridge St., Elkin.

• 4 p.m., Yadkin Valley Senior Center, 121 Delos Martin Drive, Jonesville, will hold a fellowship meal, with those attending the free meal asked to bring a side dish, bread, soda or dessert to share. Bingo will be played, so those attending should bring quarters.

March 21

• 6 to 8 p.m., the sixth annual Girls Empowering Girls Symposium will be held at the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce, 257 Standard St., Elkin, with a goal of empowering girls up to age 18. This year’s speaker will be Piper Lewis discussing “What I wish someone had told me before I started middle and high school.” Those interested can RSVP by calling Misty Matthews at 336-749-4791.

• 5 p.m., Yadkin Valley Senior Center, 121 Delos Martin Drive, Jonesville, will host its senior mingle for seniors only who are married, widowed and single. Sign up by March 18 by seeing the senior center manager or calling to register. No walk-ins since this is an event catered based on the number who signed up.

Attaway III, interim pastor of First Baptist Church of Sparta and former pastor of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in State Road, where he served 32 years. • 7 a.m., Upper Yadkin Valley Habitat for Humanity will host its annual Habitat Hammer 5K/10K with a new addition of team and group entries. The race is held at Elkin Municipal Park, 399 N.C. 268 West, Elkin. Cost to participate is $25 if registered by March 17, and $35 after. Group fees are $20 per person by March 17, $30 after.
